VENUE 095

“I deliberately arrived a bit late, which was uncool but part of my plan. When they arrived I had four sets of the active K-array all out and in front of them. We set it up in 10 minutes and it blew their minds.” The first thing Dean did was to stress the importance of soundproof- ing. Work had already begun at the venue, but this was soon put on hold to make way for the soundproofing. Likuid has been equipped with 960 Freestyle boards, which cover the walls and the ceiling. Dean also created Hong Kong’s first ever floating floor using Extron boards.

It is quite common for Hong Kong entertainment spaces to feature low ceilings and limited floor space. For many clubs this poses a problem, but not for Likuid, as Dean knew the solution was to install a K-array Kobra Line sound system. The Kobra system has a very compact footprint and blends into the space without interfering with the club’s interior design. It is the powerful sound system the club required to cater for the international DJs who would be invited to play

at Likuid.

Dean, together with Sennheiser China’s President, Marc Vincent de- signed the sound system, knowing that it needed to be flexible. Likuid can cater for full-scale DJ events, a more relaxed club atmosphere where clubbers can enjoy a mix of chatting with friends in the lounge area and strutting their stuff on the dancefloor, as well as private and corporate parties. The main audio system surrounds the entire dance- floor and lounge area. Each of the four corners has been equipped with two ultra slim Kobra KK200 two-metre line arrays mounted vertically, as well as one KL18 single 18-inch subwoofer. The system produces a clean 117dB SPL in the middle of the dancefloor. The power for the main system is provided by two K-array KA40 class D stereo amplifiers, each of which provide 4kW.

Moving onto the VIP lounge, which is located on an elevated level behind the main lounge area, two Kobra KK100 one-metre arrays, and a pair of KK50 half-metre arrays are in action. The four arrays
