A sign that its not as advanced as its surrounding countries is the fact that the building was not equipped to deal with the monsoon conditions that we experienced during all three show days. Leaking occurred and on the third day it actually caused power failure for the first three hours of the show. Where this might be considered an outrage at any other tradeshow, the exhibitors’ cool and collected attitude dem- onstrated this was not an unusual occurance and they were not going to let it get them down. Everyone continued with business as usual. The show floor boasted a Harman live performance arena, live DJ sets on the Ri- vera stand, and walking balloon boys advertising the IES booth. While outdoor audio demonstrations took place courtesy of Adamson, Turbosound, RCF, dBTechnolo- gies, and Nexo, to name just a few. The general trend of the show was that it was well attended with the aisles very busy for the full three days. The main distributors in India include Modern Stage Service, which distributes Avolites, Antari, DTS, Dataton, and Laserworld amongst others. IES takes care of Robe, Martin Audio and VMB, while Jagmag distribute Griven, Clay Paky and Avolites again. Rivera is a strong contender on the audio side, representing DiGiCo, HK Audio, Adamson, and Pioneer.

dBTechnologies exhibited with its new distribution partner Sonotone, while Alcons Audio made its first appearance at Palm Expo Mumbai, which tied in nicely with its recently opened new Indian office. The training seminar coordinated by Rivera International a couple of days before the opening of the show made the trip for visitors even more worthwhile. This gave sound engineers, audio consultants, rental companies, and installers alike the op- portunity to get a hands on experience with the new DiGiCo SD Ten and SD11, as well as the well known SD8, and SD9. HK Audio’s Element and ICON Series were also on show, alongside Adamson’s Point Series. DiGiCo’s James ‘Digger’ Bradley and HK Audio’s Christian Stumpp delivered presentations at the seminar. Overall I truly believe this was a successful show with bags of potential. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it over the next few years. An interesting point is that many companies, which up until this point have not really been present in the Indian market, are selecting now as the right time to explore this new territory. This could prove to be a well timed move - watch this space! Palm Expo Mumbai returns to the Bombay Exhibition Centre next year on 31 May - 2 June.
