Certification and Quality Standards

We Protect Women-Owned Firms Through Maintaining High

Certification Standards

U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce certifications are used in a variety of settings to verify a firm’s “women-owned” status for the purpose of advancing supplier-related opportunities for women business owners.

These supplier related opportunities may be for government contracting, providing goods and services for a large corporation or to take part as a supply chain supplier – for the purposes of teaming with other businesses, or simply to assist women who seek to support women in business verify that a business is women-owned.

What is a “Women-Owned” Firm? While certification requirements may vary slightly due to different government requirements, the basic concept is to assure that a firm is owned, controlled and operated by a woman or women.

To confirm ownership, control and operation, we test for the following:

• At least fifty-one percent ownership by woman/women

• Proof of effective management and control of the business

• Documented evidence of contribution of capital and/or expertise

• U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident Alien status (for certain government requirements)

The Importance of High Standards and Quality Since women-owned business certifications are frequently used to take part in special set-aside contracting programs, it is of the upmost importance that our certification process maintains the highest possible standards. Each firm certified by the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce bears the name of the chamber. We work hard to protect every firm holding a U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce by strictly verifying the true women-owned status of each certification holder.
