Dear Friends, In this newsletter, we are excited to announce the release of two new wines: our 2009 RED4

and 2010 WHITE4 , both of which are blends of four varietals from our

estate vineyards. With these wines, our aim is to offer two approachable blends – both

in flavor and price – while still delivering quality and complexity. Happily, the critical feedback on recent vintages confirms that we have hit the mark. The Wine Spectator recently named our 2008 RED4 “Best Buy”, while the 2009 WHITE4

including designations of “Best of Region” at the California State Fair and “Best of Show” at the Central Coast Wine Competition. Equally important, our customers have embraced both blends

with similarly enthusiastic feedback. These wines fly out of our tasting room, and they have also proven to be very popular in retail and restaurant accounts across the nation. The origins of RED4

date back to the inaugural release from the 2004 vintage. RED4

was an outgrowth of our longtime affinity for blends, and of our own inspiration to offer a pair of accessible complements to our limited-edition Cuvée Collection wines. We were confident that the RED4

wine business. Launching a new wine—and essentially a new tier in this case—is rarely easy. Thankfully, RED4

white wine companion starting with the 2008 vintage. As Winemaker Matthias Gubler explains later in this newsletter, the RED4 are made with a specific stylistic image in mind, and we find that four varietals


is just the right amount to achieve that vision from vintage to vintage. We call it the “power of four,” and we hope that you can visit us soon to experience it for yourself.
