Dear Friends, From frosts to fires, Mother Nature has put on quite a show this year, however, we at Vina Robles are fortunate to be sailing smoothly toward the 2008 harvest. In April, an unusual late-season frost impacted growers up and down the state. Our

vineyard team was on top of the situation, however, and damage was minimal as luck was on our side. You may have also heard about the many wildfires that burned across California in June and July. The closest fires to us were in Monterey County to the north and Santa Barbara County to the south. Our skies were a bit hazy at times, but there was no impact on the local landscape or vineyards. Now, as we head into September, the skies have cleared and we are

primed for another excellent vintage. The truth is that, even with the occasional unexpected weather event, California enjoys fairly consistent winegrowing seasons, especially compared to France, Italy and many other wine-producing regions around the world. This vintage-to-vintage consistency is one of the hallmarks of Paso Robles. On that note, we were recently gratified to receive high marks on two

of our wines from preeminent wine critic Robert Parker, in the wake of his extensive tasting of Rhône-style wines from the Central Coast earlier this year. In the July issue of The Wine Advocate, he gave a score of 90 points to both our 2006 Syrée red blend and our 2006 Syrah from Ryan Road Vineyard. He described the Syrée as a “dense, rich outstanding blend,” and our Syrah as “deep, rich and velvety-textured.” I hope that you can visit us this fall, when the aromas and colors of harvest offer a true

symphony for the senses. Best regards,

Hans Nef
