FEATURED WINE SPRING 2008
2006 Zinfandel As with preceding vintages, our 2006 Zinfandel comes mainly from Lock Vineyard, which is located amid the rugged coastal terrain known as the “westside” of Paso Robles. The grapes were hand picked on October 27 and sorted for quality. After gentle crushing, the wine was fermented in small stainless steel tanks. During fermentation, we blended in small lots of Petite Sirah from Penman Springs Vineyard and our estate Huerhuero Vineyard, which brought added color and dimension to the wine. The aging regimen spanned 15 months in French (80%), American (10%) and Hungarian (10%) oak barrels.
Tasting and Pairing Notes The 2006 Zinfandel offers an effusive bouquet of brambly red fruit with hints of spice. The palate is big and bright, with racy flavors of plum, black cherry, raspberry jam and white chocolate. The texture is broad and chewy, supported by fine ripe tannins. Accents of spice enliven a long, pleasant finish. This wine’s fresh, balanced character makes it a versatile match for a variety of medium-weight fare, and it will find many favorable pairings among, but not limited to, Spanish, Mexican and Italian cuisine.
Vineyards The Lock family’s hillside vineyard resides just 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here, well-drained serpentine soils of shale and clay produce low yields with intense flavors. The vineyard is cooled by marine air that flows through the Templeton Gap, a notch in the coastal mountains. This cooling influence enables the Zinfandel fruit to ripen steadily for excellent balance and structure. Our estate Huerhuero Vineyard and nearby Penman Springs Vineyard occupy rolling terrain east of the Salinas River, where warmer temperatures are ideal for maturing Petite Sirah.

NEW RELEASE
2007 Sauvignon Blanc – Jardine Vineyard Our Sauvignon Blanc hails from a five-acre block at our estate Jardine Vineyard, which lies at the corner of Jardine and Tower roads north of Highway 46 East. Here, warmer growing conditions and alluvial sandy loam soils combine to yield a pure expression of the varietal. The 2007 vintage was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its varietal aromatics. It begins with lively aromas of peach, pear, lime and hay with a mineral undercurrent. Fresh flavors of pear, peach, melon and citrus unfold with crisp acidity and a hint of creaminess.
