Greek Alumni Advisory Council
In the fall of 2009, several alumni met with Student Affairs administrators to discuss how alumni could help contribute to positive directions in Greek life for the future. The Greek Alumni Advisory Council was born. The mission of the GAAC is to promote, maintain and sustain the well-being of the Greek community at Trinity University. This will be achieved through cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with Greek undergraduates and with the Trinity administration. The Greek Council and the individual organizations enthusiastically have expressed enthusiastic interest in more robust communication and involvement with Greek alumni. The GAAAC has already started to serve an important communication role in many directions.
National Greek systems feature a three-prong network of campus chapters, national groups that oversee chapter operations, and campus administration. In a local model, the University, in a way, takes on the dual role of the national oversight group and the administration. This approach puts the administration in a much greater enforcement role than where there are national chapters. In our system, the alumni, as organized, are crucial to filling the void that results when national organizations aren’t involved. This program is in its infancy, but promises to be a key to maintaining the positive momentum that is growing. Our alumni can independently advise and counsel current organizations utilizing their knowledge of the group, their understanding of campus culture, and their experiences and perspectives as alumni.
