Greek Council initiatives Revised calendars
Alcohol presentation
The incoming Greek Council officers conducted a study with new members and learned that many felt the rush and orientation processes were too lengthy. Most notably, the full Greek Council expressed concern about the impact of orientation on spring mid- term exams. The Council voted to shorten fall rush and spring new member orientation. The student use of data and consideration of academic issues was impressive for both the process and the outcome. It also sends a message to faculty about the academic priorities of our students. This decision was shared with academic department chairs by the Vice President for the Faculty and Student Affairs.
The Greek Council initiated the return of a popular lecturer just prior to spring break. Mark Sterner speaks to students about his own traumatic experience as a college student on spring break. On the last night of break, he was the driver in an accident that killed three of his fraternity brothers. Near death himself, he eventually recovered and served time in prison. His provocative and emotional talk includes video footage of him and his buddies drinking the night of the fatal accident. Over 500 students attended.
