McCarthy&Stone launch removal service with branded vehicles


Retirement developer McCarthy & Stone has teamed up with removals specialist House to Home UK, to offer its buyers a dedicated removals service. In a first for the UK housebuilding industry, the removals will be co-ordinated and delivered by House to Home UK, using a bespoke fleet of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter trucks which have been designed specifically for the job. The vehicles will feature McCarthy & Stone branding, giving the developer massive exposure as the lorries travel around the UK. The first vehicle, along with McStone branded uniforms for removal staff, was unveiled at the company’s Bournemouth headquarters last month and will soon be joined on the road by a further ten trucks before the end of the year. MacTaggart & Mickel won the Gillespie Macandrew Housebuilder of the Year Award at the recent Scottish Home Awards 2011, as well as picking up the Small Housebuilder of the Year prize. More than 500 guests packed out the Edinburgh International Conference Centre to see former Housebuilder of the Year winner, Miller Homes collect two awards: Luxury House of the Year for the Playfair at Graysmill Gait, Edinburgh, and the Large Housebuilder of the Year award. The Designer House of the Year category was sponsored by whathouse.co.uk and was awarded to Gerry Goldwyre for his “creative and unique property” RP9 at Eskbank, Edinburgh. The McCarthy & Stone livery on the truck looks great, and we will be adding to the fleet as the demand for the service increases.” McCarthy & Stone will sell around 1,300 units this year, added Phillips, and he expects to provide a removals service for at least 80 per cent of these.


Prime London development site hits the market for £225 million


A site which has been described as one of the last remaining prime central London development opportunities of any scale has been brought to market by Knight Frank. The St John’s Wood Barracks site is expected to attract offers in excess of £225 million. The site, currently owned by private family trust the Eyre Estate, has been occupied as a Barracks since 1804. The present occupiers, Royal Artillery’s Kings Troop, will vacate by early 2012 as part of a planned move to a new facility in Woolwich. The 5.5 acre (2.2 hectare) site has planning permission for 133 properties: 74 private residential units comprising approximately 310,000 square feet of net saleable area with underground car parking, and 59 affordable units over 49,000 square feet. The


planning permission provides for the existing buildings to be demolished, apart from the Grade II listed riding school which will be converted into a gym and swimming pool. The site is located in St John’s Wood which Knight Frank says is characterised by low-rise, high-quality villa housing. “The area has excellent shopping facilities and amenities, benefiting from the close proximity of Regent’s Park, Primrose Hill and London’s West End shopping area . St John’s Wood is regarded as a prestigious address and one of London’s ‘golden postcodes’ – it has been the best-performing area monitored by Knight Frank’s Prime Central London Index (which tracks resale properties) over the past 12 months,” says the company.
