From the chairman and chief executive

Raoul Pinnell, chairman

It has been a busy year for Careers Development Group. Our jobseekers have worked hard to overcome the challenges they face and, supported by CDG’s diligent staff team, have achieved an even higher percentage of job outcomes than previous years.

The implementation of the new Work Choice contract and the winning of contracts under the Work Programme has strengthened CDG’s position as a leading welfare to work charity and will allow us to work with jobseekers over the year ahead.

The board of trustees was further strengthened during 2010/11, with three new members joining during the year, thus increasing the experience and knowledge available to guide CDG through the coming years.

New directors have also taken up post, providing CDG with the expert senior management it needs to enable it to grow and diversify.

Of course, none of CDG’s success could be possible without the hard work of its jobseekers and staff, for which the board and I would like to extend our thanks.

Despite the challenging economic background, both organisational performance and quality of service have improved, which is testament to the commitment and skill of all those who work for CDG and all those that the organisation has had the opportunity to support.

Roy O’Shaughnessy, chief executive

CDG has had a successful year: performance on existing contracts has been enhanced, new contracts have been implemented and others have been won ready for implementation during 2011/12. The company’s subsidiary organisations have grown and our international partnerships have been expanded and strengthened.

As well as CDG’s existing contracts, 2010/11 saw the launch of the Work Choice contract through its jointly owned subsidiary company CDG - WISE Ability. This contract, which provides intensive specialised support to jobseekers with a health condition or disability, has added an extra dimension to the excellent work already undertaken by the CDG staff team.

CDG was proud to be awarded the Work Programme contract for London East during the past year. As well as the London East contract, we also won two contracts through our alliance with MAXIMUS Employment and Training. This new style of service delivery will see CDG helping an even wider range of jobseekers, over the coming years.

CDG’s charitable activities were increased during 2010/11, with the launch of the Expert Volunteer Initiative. This scheme ensures that additional skilled support is given to those jobseekers who need it most. After a successful pilot in one of its centres, CDG is expanding the initiative across all areas of its activity in line with the implementation of the Work Programme.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all of CDG’s jobseekers staff and other stakeholders for their hard work during 2010/11. I would also like to thank the chair and board members for the commitment of their time and skills. Thanks to the efforts of these individuals, CDG is now one step closer to achieving its vision of a society in which employment is available to all.
