a good place to check postings from current students looking for roommates. The Admissions Office will also send you information about a roommate list that is put together each year (see
www.swlaw.edu/studentservices/studentlife/information/ roommates).
Transportation When choosing a place to live that is more than 10-15 minutes from campus, it is important to consider how accessible it is to the freeway system or public transportation. The majority of students at Southwestern commute and own vehicles, but there are some who take the Metro Rail to school. There is a Metro Red Line stop less than two blocks from campus, so it’s a good idea to look at the different routes and check out the areas that offer this alternative way of commuting in Los Angeles (see page 11 for more information on getting around Los Angeles, and page 25 for a map of the Metro Rail system).
Where To Look For Housing A good resource for finding housing is the classified section of the newspaper, which advertises available apartments for rent. The Sunday edition of the Los Angeles Times is a good place to start your search. You can go directly to their website at
www.latimes. com/rentals. Other local newspapers include L.A. Daily News, L.A. Weekly, Santa Monica Outlook, Beverly Hills Courier and the Recycler. You can also look for the Apartment Guide at your local supermarket; it’s free and it often has maps and pictures of the apartment buildings. Check out their website for listings at
www.apartmentguide.com.
