16 Orientation and LAWS Week


Orientation for all new students and the mandatory LAWS (Legal Analysis, Writing & Skills) course for first-year students both begin prior to the start of doctrinal courses. LAWS commences at an accelerated pace after Orientation, and continues as one of the substantive courses for the remainder of the year. It introduces students to law school and provides an overview of the legal system, the structure of court systems, case analysis, and case briefing. Orientation provides an overview of important information related to the academic programs and life as a new law student.


Orientation topics include: • Academic procedures and class registration • Student services • Campus tours • Campus activities (organizations, recreation, entertainment, etc.) • Student questions and answers


Southwestern provides current students with email addresses once registration is completed.


Textbooks

Fitness Center and Recreation Room


Students are welcome to use Southwestern’s Fitness Center and Recreation Room, located on the lower level of the Bullocks Wilshire Building, free of charge, seven days a week. New students may begin using the facilities once Student ID cards are activated and Fitness Center waivers are signed and processed.


The state-of-the-art, 10,000 sq. ft. Fitness Center includes


cardiovascular machines, weight circuit equipment, free weights and an enclosed exercise studio equipped for workout videos, as well as lockers, showers and bathroom facilities.
