StAlbans' food and drink history stretches back centuries. YeOlde Fighting Cocks is officially the oldest pub in England, having possibly housed the ale for theBenedictinemonasterywhich stretched all theway down theAbbey Orchard.Our fabulous twiceweekly market has had a RoyalCharter since 1553, but is documented to have been in existence as far back as the ninth century. Themarket scene continues to growand thrive todaywith the popular Farmers’ Market on the second Sunday of the month and regularContinentalMarkets.


StAlbans offers all types of refreshment - lively and friendly coffee shops,mobile vans like The Pudding Stop and Soko Coffee at StAlbans Station, and excellent, independent restaurants, includingGood FoodGuide 2011 listedDarcy's, Lussmanns and theBlueAnchor, andAA Rosettewinners StMichael'sManor, SopwellHouse andChezMumtaj. You name it, StAlbans has it.
