Funds sought to raise flag at CCA
A large American flag may soon fly at the Chandler Center for the Arts if a group of patriotic volunteers is successful in raising $9,000 for the cause. Friends of the Chandler Center for the Arts and the Chandler Cultural Foundation Board set the goal to cover the estimated cost of the 30-foot-tall commercial quality aluminum flagpole and electrical costs for lighting, excavation, concrete, materials and labor for the installation. The flag itself has already been donated by Anne DeRose of Sun Lakes, a Chandler Cultural Foundation board member.
“Earlier this year, one of our volunteers brought up the idea to install the flagpole at the Center,” says General Manager Katrina Pappas. “With the support of the members of the Chandler Cultural Foundation Board, the idea quickly turned to an organized effort to make this initiative a reality. We are delighted to see the passion and the dedication of our volunteers and the community behind this noble cause.”
Pappas says donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and any extra funds received will be placed in the Center’s endowment fund unless otherwise specified by the donor. The endowment fund is a permanently restricted fund from which interest earnings help support comprehensive education, artistic programming and community outreach opportunities, explains Pappas.
Located in the historic downtown on the northwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, Pappas says the Chandler Center for the Arts is Arizona’s “leading collaborative arts institution dedicated to reaching out to audiences of all ages with the highest quality of artistic work to continuously inspire audiences and artists to dream, to discover, to create and celebrate.” Community members who want to support this initiative can mail donations to the Chandler Center for the Arts, Attn: Katrina Pappas, Flagpole Fund, 250 N. Arizona Ave., Chandler, AZ 85225. For details about the CCA, visit
