Swim Team Mondays through Fridays, 60-minute practices

The MAC swim team is ideal for junior swimmers who are ready to move beyond basic swimming lessons, focusing more intensely on the skills taught in levels 6-10. With swim coach approval, students may sign up to join the team any time of the year. Then they have the choice to attend any of the fi ve, 60-minute practices offered Monday through Friday. Swim Coach Spencer Crum says, “Our workouts are designed to build kids’ self esteem in the water and to prepare them for competition.” Crum stresses the importance of water safety and fi nding a comfort zone in the water. “We don’t expect them to be perfect. We want them to experiment with how their bodies move through the water so they’ll be prepared to adjust to any situation.” Nine-year-old Reid Chen has been on the swim team for two years, having learned to swim through the club’s SwimAmerica program. He says, “The most fun thing about the swim team is that you get to know other people.” Chen’s mother says the team has really built his confi dence and given him a fun, new social outlet.
