Locker Room Phase I Wet Area Work Begins
he basement level men’s locker room renovation has been proceeding on schedule. Although there have been a few unexpected surprises, this major club project is on track to meet the completion date of Sept. 30.
T
The wet areas – showers, sinks, sauna, steam and toilets
The Phase II wet area is complete or will be in the fi rst week of July. These showers are the primary shower facility for the basement locker room during construction of the Phase I wet area. There are not as many shower heads in the Phase II area so members are asked to be mindful that others may be waiting for a shower even during what are normally non-peak busy periods. The same goes for sinks and toilets. There are also facilities on the mezzanine level locker room but don’t forget to wear a towel and be careful on the stairs.
The sauna and steam rooms are part of the Phase I renovation and are not avail- able until the construction is complete in September.
Lounge Work has begun in the locker room
lounge. To ensure it remains available for use during the day, every effort is made to have this work occur during the night. The budget for the entire locker room
renovation project is tight so replacement of furniture may not be possible if signifi cant unknown conditions result in the need for additional repairs or replacements. While not desirable, it may be necessary to defer replacement of furniture in the lounge. If it is necessary to defer furniture replace- ment to meet the budget, funding will be requested in the 2012 capital budget.
Corridor and shoe shine
The corridor tiling is being done in phases. Members should experience little inconvenience as this work progresses. Andre the cobbler, on the other hand, is moving up and down the corridor as the tiling shifts from one area to another. The shoe shine area will end up in roughly the

same area as it is now, but with the added amenity of a phone and drop box access for women to have better access to this service.
Lockers
Locker replacements are proceeding on schedule, though they have been taking considerably more effort than originally anticipated. Here is the schedule of the fi nal set of lockers to be replaced.

It is important members clean out their lockers by the designated Saturday. The new lockers are available for member occupancy the following Saturday. Bags are conveniently available to assist in the endeavor of cleaning out those accumu- lated treasures.
Unfortunately the process has been slowed down when lockers have not been cleared out by occupants.
Nearly one third of all lockers were not cleared out by the designated time. Belongings had to be bagged, tagged and stored until replacement lockers were installed. Invariably a few bags had to be retrieved when members showed up for a workout to fi nd their locker was no longer available.
Other than a few minor items, the Phase II locker area is complete. The Phase I locker area is well under way and lockers are on track for full replacement, painting and carpeting to be complete by July 17.
