Freedom’s I
BY DAVID NORVELL, Director of BMAA Chaplaincy
Chaplain (Captain)
Doug Inman, preaching and teaching the Word of God
Freedom’s Cost and Courage Almost 10 years after 9/11, we are still deploying military men and women fighting wars and protecting our freedom. Chaplains wear the uniform with the insignias of the United States and the Cross of Christ. Democratic freedom is a wonderful thing, worth defending, and a true blessing from God. How much more is
the Freedom found in Jesus Christ. Christian Freedom is “free indeed” and deserves the commitment of our very lives. Give thanks for our nation, our freedom, and the freedom found in Christ! This past year an Army Chaplain (Captain), Dale Goetz, 43, died in
combat. He was the first chaplain killed in action, from any branch of service during this long war. His leaders said he had set a goal of seeing a number of soldiers saved and a number called into ministry during this deployment. Though he was from another denomination he is just like the BMA chaplains, ministering in combat zones serving God and Country. Pray for them.

“Christian Freedom is ‘free indeed’ and deserves
the commitment of our very lives.
Give thanks for our nation, our freedom, and the freedom found in Christ!”
Celebration
Independence Day reminds us to celebrate the freedom that our militaryhas fought and died for, and the freedom that our Lord paid for
n the Preamble of the Constitution it says, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to
ourselves and our posterity…” This July the Fourth we celebrate the freedom, declared, fought for, and enjoyed in our nation. May we continue to recognize “the Blessings of Liberty!”
Freedom’s Call and Challenges We still need “a few good men” to answer the call of ministry in the military. If you
have prior service, are pursuing an undergraduate or seminary degree, feel a unique pastoral calling, are under age 42, and can pass or can get where you can pass a physical, please call (501) 213-6657. I really want to help you serve God and country.
Freedom’s Care Some ask, “What do Chaplains do?” CH (CPT) R. Carter Pearce
reported from his Kosovo deployment during the month of December these activities: Grief counseling after an aircraft crash; Contemporary worship service, 80 attending four services;Gospel service, 37 in four services; Bible studies, 22 in four meetings; Christmas Eve service, 38, English classes, 71; Red Cross messages counseling; Suicide awareness/ prevention briefs to 700 people in five briefs. You have the opportunity as a chaplain to share faith, reinforce faith and represent faith in unusual places and ways.
