From the Office Welcome to the 2011 issue of the California Holstein News! Kate Briggs

Coming off the heels of a fantastic State Holstein Show, we are all reminded of the greatest aspects of the California Holstein Association. Te cows, the people, and the good times shared. Our show this year fea- tured nearly 200 head- the largest in recent years- from exhibitors around the state. Every class, including the new State Red & White Show classes, had outstanding win- ners to showcase our CA herds. Tis spring

event is an opportunity for people to share their excitement about the industry and Holstein genetics. We received great industry support in the form of sponsorships, and a thank you is extended to all those who made donations to make the show possible and a success for all.

Our new website will be live by the time this magazine arrives. With having the website maintained and hosted here in the of- fice, it will be updated frequently, and serve as a better means of communication between members, and to visitors interested in California Holsteins. Tere will be a few exciting interactive features as well. I invite you to contact me with any suggestions about the website going forward, and anything you would like to see added. As always, please send me your club news and events to include on the website and in newsletters so that we can all share in the accomplishments of members and what is going on in your area!

It has been my pleasure to work throughout the year with the CA Junior Holstein Association. We have a very talented and enthusiastic group of young people who are active in the as- sorted junior events. Tank you to Junior Advisor Kirsten Are- ias for her time and efforts in coordinating junior activities and preparing the National Convention contestants who represent our state so well.

Mark your calendars for two new fun events for the association approaching in the next few months. Full details for these will be coming soon:

*Sunday, August 21: Oakland A’s vs. Toronto Blue Jays game will be a family- friendly outing complete with all you can eat BBQ and private seating area.

*Te annual Planning Conference will be held again at beauti-

ful Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino on Saturday October 29. Plan to include a stay on Friday night for a Holstein social prior to the conference. Te Yosemite International Jazz Festival will be held at Chukchansi that weekend as well.

I look forward to the coming year and the California Holstein Association events. I hope that you all take the opportunity to continue to be involved in our association on a local and state level and enjoy the great camaraderie between fellow Holstein enthusiasts.

Tank you to Carolina Evangelo and her team for creating a stylish publication in which to promote and advertise the best of California Holsteins and our association members.

Enjoy this year’s magazine and have a wonderful summer,

Kate Briggs, Office Manager
