Lauren

is a fifth grader, and has been a member of the Merced County Junior Holstein Association for three years.

Lauren McCullough

Lauren exhibits her Holsteins at state and local Holstein Shows, Los Banos’ May Day Fair, Mer- ced County Fair and California State Fair. She is very active in the showring and has always

placed in the top 3 in showmanship. In 2010, she was 1st place in Junior Showmanship at the Merced County Black and White Show. Lauren has also exhibited the Reserve Junior Champion of both the May Day Fair and Merced County Fair in 2010, as well as, Honorable Mention Junior Champion of the Merced County Fair.

She is an active member of the Merced County Holstein Club, where she has participated in Dairy Bowl for the past three years and was also 3rd place winner of the National Junior Holstein Association Essay Contest.

Outside of the Holstein Association, Lauren is an active member of OLF 4-H where she is active in dairy, sewing, photography, rabbits, arts and crafts and cooking. She is currently the dairy group secretary and has received a gold award for her record book in both 2009 and 2010.

In school, Lauren excels in academics and is on the honor roll. She is also involved in student government and serves as Traffic Commissioner.

Lauren is the proud owner of Spectrum Dundee Cleo-ET. Lauren ex- plained that Cleo was Very Good 86 when she purchased her, but after Cleo gave birth to Lauren’s first homebred heifer, she went Excellent 90. Tis is something Lauren is very proud of.

In addition to Cleo and

her homebred heifer, Lauren owns four other Holsteins, which she has shown for the past two years. She plans to continue being active in the showring and breed all of her Holsteins to look and perform their best on the dairy, as well as, in the showring.

When asked why she should be considered for this award, Lauren was very passionate in her response, “I feel that I deserve this award because of the love and dedication I have for my Registered Holsteins. Ever since I got my first cow, at eight years old, I have been watching them grow, taking them to shows and raising their young. Even though I only have one heifer that has been bred by me, I am looking forward to the chance to show a whole string that has my own prefix.”

Lauren is truly a determined and dedicated young breeder. Congratulations on your award as this year’s Young Breeder of the Future Girl!
