Plymouth Jazz Club/National Trust “Summer Jazz Picnic” At Saltram House, 6.00pm on Saturday 23rd. July 2011
For the sixteenth successive year Plymouth Jazz Club and the National Trust are holding their highly popular Summer Jazz Picnic at Saltram House, the National Trust’s prime Georgian property at Plympton, just 3 miles from Plymouth City centre.
It is hard to imagine a more beautiful setting for such an event. Over the years some 16,000 or more people have brought their picnic rugs, camper chairs and cooler boxes and picnicked in the beautiful grounds of one of the National Trust’s finest properties. As usual there will be two bands who will play music for listening and dancing from 6.00pm to 11.00pm, a bar serving real ale, Pimm’s No. 1 and other drinks. Tea, coffee, wine, soft drinks, cakes and biscuits etc. will be on sale from one of the National Trust tents. Also on sale will be National Trust souvenirs and gift items. The early evening music will be provided by “Richard Leach’s 7 Stars of Jazz”, a fine band from the Midlands playing great traditional jazz. With the perfect eclectic mix of Chicago, Swing and Dixieland plus a hint of Vaudeville, the band doesn’t just play jazz it really entertains the audience. It is impossible not to be swept along with the atmosphere.
“John Shillito and his Select Six will play swinging, melodic jazz for dancing, listening and having a good time!”
Bring your brollies and have great fun as you join in the brolly parade in the traditional manner of New Orleans.
The second band is the very popular local group “John Shillito’s Select Six”. It is six musicians playing swinging, melodic jazz for dancing, listening and generally having a good time!
