The easiest way to make a big impact in a room is to create a large collec- tion of pictures, favourite photographs or postcards and make a display on a plain wall. It is best to cram as many as you can together and, unless they are heavy pieces of artwork, simply ‘blue tac’ them to the wall. Think big and cre- ate a display, which can be circular or rectangular in shape, and a heart shape works very well in a bedroom.
A really tried-and-tested way to update a room that is very trendy at the mo- ment is to wallpaper a feature wall or add a splash of colour and paint it. It’s a great way of adding pattern and colour into a space without it being too overwhelming. Choose a large, uninterrupted wall to achieve the best impact.

There is a real ‘crafty’ bohemian look at the moment, which has a strong retro, quirky feel about it but is still very modern and contemporary. Anything handmade is perfect, so look in craft workshops, arty studios and rummage around junk shops and car boot sales as there are some gems to be found. Check out Spitalfields market and around London’s East End too.
Group decorative objects on a shelf, above the fireplace or on a console table to create a focal point to a room. Shades of white, cream and grey work well together, and then add something in a bright colour to add a zing!
Dark coloured kitchens are now on trend and recycled timber and concrete worktops are also very fashionable. It’s an edgy, industrial look which has a rustic finish and isn’t too neat and tidy. Add earth-toned accessories to com- plete the look.
Like kitchens, bathrooms are getting darker too. Now, it’s less about white walls and a white bathroom suite but more about generous, large tiles in dark colours and patterned tiles, which almost act like wallpaper are very popular. Black tiles and taps are also very ‘in’ and look amazing!
The favourite interior colours at the moment are for an earthy palette and recycled things are very trendy with rough finishes and lots of texture. There are also some lovely metallic print wallpapers around which are becoming increasingly popular.
