one to Watch out For...

Chelcee Grimes,

the next big thing in hip-hop/R&B

will be at this year’s Pride.

5 minutes in a portaloo q

A QUICK CHAT WITH THE X FACTOR FINALIST, RUTH LORENZO

What tattoo

would you get? rl: I’m not thinking of getting any other tattoos at the moment. I’ve got The Raspberry Pattern on my arm named after my band; if I get something it has to mean a lot like this one. The tattoo is completely random, like me.

Most memorable

Parade 2 Pride

london 6 • 2011

road trip? rl: It was when me and some friends travelled from San Francisco to LA in a black Mustang convertible! AMAZING! It was just me, my best friends, rocking out with the sun beaming down and the wind in our hair! I felt free as a bird and as content as ever!

Biggest career- changing move? rl: Setting up my band – The Raspberry Pattern. I recently changed management companies and ended my major recording contract. I’ve started from scratch as I want to do it my way. If I can’t be myself then what I sing is not real, it’s not from my heart or soul. I’m a typical Spanish woman – strong, honest and passionate. I need to believe in whatever I am doing 100% no matter what the consequences are. I am releasing my first single ‘Burn’ independently on my own label with my new manager. Scary, but I buzz off adrenalin. Hold on tight!!

Give us a story

about your first pet. What was its name? rl: I used to have a pet dog called Toby, he was little with curly white hair, he used to jump bushes all the time so

we nick named him ‘the sheep’

What tunes do you

play whilst your in the bathtub? rl: Well that depends if anyone is joining me in the bath? No, seriously I enjoy lighting candles, running a super-hot bath with plenty of bubbles and chilling out to Nora Jones.

Favourite festival

and why? rl: I love Rock in Rio which is a Latin festival in Spain, it’s next to the beach and it’s an amazing atmosphere. I’ll hopefully be performing there next year. That would be a dream come true.

You have 5 mins to

live, what do you do? rl: I would call my mum to tell her how much I love her, then make love to my boyfriend!

What will you be doing on Pride day?

rl: I will be partying with every sone else! I have a lot of gay friends: my PA and manager. I guess I’m like a lesbian-hag.

What are you most

proud of in life? rl: Having the balls to leave everything behind and jump on a plane with only two suitcases in my hands to follow my dreams. It’s been a rollercoaster ride but I’ll never give up.

What are you plans

next? Info on new single, gigs, etc. rl: My debut single ‘Burn’ gets released in the UK on 7 August. We will be touring UK and Ireland very soon. You can go on to my website and enter your email to get instant news. My last live show sold out straight away and we only announced it on Twitter. Things are going great and I’m loving life!
