“I like to think that Fran Cotton will be remembered for his second career—for having created and run a beautiful catalogue and online business that set new standards in the world of multichannel retailing, rather than for his first career as a highly distinguished rugby player.
In his own words... “The industry is changing all the time, particularly in the last few years with ecommerce now very much a part of the home shopping environment. To be recognised by my peer group is a big thrill and a great honour.”
Together with Steve Smith he set new standards in the sector by being one the very first to take a relatively small niche-category business and prove scalability, with clever diversification. Although the business drew its initial authority from Fran’s distinguished career as captain of the English rugby team, the catalogue for “wannabe sportsmen” managed to transform itself into a mainstream apparel business with great success. A worthy winner of the ECMOD Lifetime Award.” Nigel Swabey, Executive Chairman, Scotts & Co and former ECMOD Lifetime Achievement Award Winner
