Bike Polo originated in Ireland in the late 19th century and was originally based on a grass fi eld. In more recent times, the hard-court game has taken over – and by all accounts, fl ourished. Having gained popularity through- out Europe, America and Asia, Bike Polo has now made its way into Wales, and the pioneer- ing Cardiff Bike Polo Club hope to promote the sport’s continued growth.


More relaxed than your typical competitive sport, Bike Polo requires little tuition, a bit of bravery and more often than not, there’s a beer involved at the end.


Careering round a small hard-court on a care- fully tailored bike and nothing but a homemade mallet may seem like a daft proposition, but cy- cling enthusiast and all-round intrepid sports reporter Dave Brayley wasn’t afraid to give it a go.
