BCSC calls for greater clarity on localism BCSC has welcomed calls for greater clarity and consistency from the coalition about which tier of government will be held accountable for decision- making in an era of localism. Since the publication of the Localism Bill last year, BCSC has been actively engaging with all levels of government to ensure that the coalition’s flagship legislation does not undermine the industry’s efforts to facilitate private sector growth.


Italian retailer Calzedonia to expand in the UK Cushman & Wakefield has been exclusively retained by Italian hosiery and beachwear retailer Calzedonia to acquire stores in London with a view to rolling-out the brand across the UK. Calzedonia was founded in 1987 close to Verona, in Italy and currently has over 1,300 stores worldwide. Duncan Gilliard in Cushman & Wakefield’s London retail team said: “Calzedonia is looking for six stores between 60-100 sq m in high footfall locations across London.”


Kidston targets St David’s Cath Kidston is to open its first standalone shop in Wales with a 2,552 sq ft store at St David’s, Cardiff. CSC’s Joanne Skilton, said: “Cath Kidston is a unique brand with an instantly recognisable handwriting which their customers love. We are delighted that Cath Kidston have decided to join the quality retail line up at St David’s” E J Hales, Lunson Mitchenall and Cushman & Wakefield are agents the centre’s agents and Michael Peddar & Co advised the tenant.


Three more retailers have signed up to take over 12,000 sq ft at Parkway Newbury, Standard Life Investments’ 475,000-sq ft mixed-use development, bringing the scheme to more than 75 per cent let by area with five months still to go until opening. Superdry, Fraser Hart and


Johnsons of Windsor, all of which are new to Newbury, have confirmed that they are to take 10-year leases in the scheme,


which opens in October 2011. All three tenants have taken


units in Parkway’s Middle Street, with Superdry taking 4,608 sq ft, Fraser Hart taking 3,000 sq ft, while Johnsons of Windsor has taken 4,446 sq ft. The new tenants will trade


alongside anchors Debenhams, M&S and John Lewis at Home, together with an exciting tenant mix that includes H&M, New Look, Topshop, Jones Bootmaker, Lakeland and Paperchase.
