Online entry draws record response for 2011 ATCM Awards
The ATCM Awards went online only for entries this year and has been a great success with a record number of entries. Shortlisting has now been completed. In the Outstanding Work by
Leicester sees launch of new Market Corner
Leicester’s market, voted Britain’s most popular market attracting over 2m visitors pa, has gained a new attraction in an initiative backed by Le-One, the city centre management company. A recently refurbished
area of the existing market has been developed and launched as ‘Market Corner’ to create a brand new market attraction for visitors, city workers and shoppers. The new area – together
with existing food offers at the market – will concentrate on providing a variety of hot and cold food based upon exciting cuisines from all corners of the world. The extension was opened
by Sir Peter Soulsby, the newly elected Mayor of Leicester and the second most powerful city mayor in the country after London’s Boris Johnson. Market
Corner boasts its own unique brand identity with a striking colour scheme of burnt orange and blue and an accessible typeface on signage forming a visual backdrop that will clearly identify its distinctive character and appeal. Nick Carter, chairman
of, Prospect Leicestershire and member of the Le-One executive board, said:: “Everyone in Leicester knows about Leicester Market, but the challenge now is to continue to improve what it has to offer and spread the word so that it really punches its weight as a major attraction for the city. “The work being done
now is essential to create a firm foundation for even more improvements.,” added Carter. “The market is located at the heart of the city – it can be at the heart of the city’s attraction for visitors.”

BID or Partnership category, the nominees are: Worcester BID’s Employalty Card; Belfast’s Retail Crimewatch and Reading BID’s Cardboard Waste Recycling Partnership For Developing the Evening & Night Time Economy Bournemouth, Brixton and Romford are all shortlisted. Under Improving the Business Mix Redcar’s Town Centre Partnership, Kenilworth’s regeneration programme and Camden’s Pop Up Shops have
been shortlisted. The Design, Regeneration
and Streetscape Improvements shortlist comprises Belfast City Centre Management; Camden Town First; Baldock Town Centre and Alloa.
And in Marketing, Events
or Promotions the inSwindon BID Company’s Christmas switch-on; the Love Cambridge Family of Guides; the Harlow Summertime Sheep Trail; Larne Borough Council’s 2010 Christmas Campaign and Belfast City Centre Management’s Be Rewarded Card all made it onto the shortlist.
Finally the Chairman’s
Award for Best New Talent will go to either Sarah Harrison, Chris Hurst or Pat Cambage.
Mystery shoppers descend on Cambridge in Skillsmart initiative
A team of mystery shoppers and city assessors will be heading to Cambridge this month to rate the quality of the city’s shopping experience. The Location Model, designed by Skillsmart Retail, the
Sector Skills Council for Retail, is being used to assess how well Cambridge performs in a number of different areas, from shop standards to town centre cleanliness. The project is being funded by the National Skills Academy
for Retail and supported by Love Cambridge, the City Centre Partnership for Cambridge. As part of the project, Cambridge’s independent retailers have
been given the chance to be mystery shopped. A team of trained market research professionals will visit each
participating independent retailer twice during the month of June to judge how well they are performing in a number of criteria, including customer service, product knowledge and window display.
