I’ve been able to start going through the pile of the unwatched DVDs that has grown steadily in my office at home. I have to admit I’m actually getting used to not having TV. I’ve watched a disc of Buster Keaton material – a sort of cinematic scrapbook – as well as a 1960 promotional film for the Western town built by cowboy star Ray Corrigan that was the setting for many movie and television Westerns 40 and 50 years ago. FREE COMPUTER TIME The Adult Center, 231 Maple Road, is hosting free computer time on Wednesdays in July from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The computer lab will be available provided people can work independently.


BOOK CLUB The Adult Center’s Book Club will meet on July 5 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The selection is “Too Close to the Falls” by Catherine Gildiner. For August, the group will be reading “Paris Wife” by Paula McLain. New members are always welcome.


GOLF CLASS Adult Center, 231 Maple Road, is hosting a golf class on Wednesdays from July 6 to Aug. 10. VETERAN’S GROUP There will be no meeting of the Adult Center’s Veteran’s Group in July. The next meeting will be Aug. 3. These monthly meetings welcome all area veterans.


 SPRINGFIELD ALL NIGHT VIGIL


An all night vigil in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary will take place at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, at 9 p.m. on July 1 and concludes on July 2 with a Mass at 7 a.m. The public is invited to attend.


JCC TRIP TO MOHEGAN SUN The Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC) is hosting a trip to Mohegan Sun Casino on July 18. Bus departs the JCC, 1160 Dickinson St., at 8 a.m., and returns at 3:30 p.m. Cost: $25, which includes a $15 coupon or free buffet; and three $5 bets.
