KIDS CARE The newly formed Longmeadow Kids Care Club, whose mission is to get school-age children actively involved in making a positive contribution to the community, organized a Bliss Park clean-up as their first official event on May 22. Twenty-three children, ranging in age from 3 to 11, participated and learned they could actually
have fun while picking up litter and cleaning up the park they all enjoy. The club plans to organize similar hands-on volunteer events for children throughout the year.

TUFTS UNIVERSITY DEAN’S LIST Victoria Perrakis of Longmeadow (class of 2014) was named to Tufts University’s dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester. Dean’s list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater. HCC DEAN’S LIST Each semester Holyoke Community College recognizes superior scholarship through the dean’s list. A student is placed on the dean’s list if his or her G.P.A. is 3.2 or higher. exchange for sexual conduct. In an effort to provide needed
social services for victims of human trafficking, the bill includes
a “Safe Harbor” provision that allows a court to judge a person under 18 years-old who is apprehended for prostitution – but found to be a victim of human trafficking – to be in need of services rather than simply delinquent. Finally, the bill establishes an
inter-agency task force to address human trafficking. The task force will collect data to continually study the problem of human trafficking and devise plans to share information across agencies to facilitate a more efficient pursuit of human traffickers.
