City of Chandler Insider What’s acceptable?
Items accepted at the City of Chandler Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility* include:

WHAT IS IT? Mark King, solid waste field staff supervisor for the City of Chandler, tests the pH of an unknown hazardous waste liquid for the purpose of properly identifying, segregating and then packaging the material for proper disposal.
Motor oil, anti-freeze, vehicle-related fluids Glues and adhesives Propane tanks and cylinders Mercury and mercury-related waste Paint and paint-related products Rechargeable and lead acid batteries Aerosols
Lawn and garden chemicals Sharps and lancets Acids Poisons
HHW recycled material is not a revenue-generating operation at this time. However, the City does receive funds for motor oil, lead-acid batteries, cardboard, metal and plastic containers that are recycled when contents are dispensed.
Over the past year, the HHW Collection program diverted nearly 170,000 pounds of paint, oil, pesticides, fl ammables and other hazardous waste from landfi lls.

LOTSA PAINT: Latex paint, such as that being handled by City of Chandler employee Justin Baldwin, makes up more than half of the hazardous waste collected each year.
• 2,261 appointments from May 2010 to May 2011
• Of 170,000 pounds of material collected, 92,000 pounds is latex paint
• 14,000 pounds of batteries recycled • 1,800 gallons of motor oil recycled • 540 gallons of antifreeze recycled • 270 gallons of cooking oil recycled
