It will be “PandaMania” at Chandler United Methodist Church when vacation bible school is held from 9 a.m. to noon Mon., June 20 to Fri., June 24. All children in preschool or 4 years old through fi fth grade are invited to attend. PandaMania, or “Where God is wild about you,” costs $25 per student or $40 per family. There are discounts and 100 percent scholarships available, as well as discounts for onsite volunteers.

July 4th fireworks at Central Christian


A Fourth of July fi reworks show with music, a tailgate and lawn party will be held by Central Christian Church at their Gilbert Campus from 7 to 9 p.m. Mon., July 4. The event is free and open to the public.


“Fire in the Sky” will also be a chance to assist local food banks with donations of nonperishable food items, and organizers have set a goal to collect 25 pounds of food for every family in attendance. Last year 94,000 pounds were given. Co-sponsored by the Town of Gilbert, attendees are encouraged to invite friends, bring donated food, chairs, blankets, cold drinks and picnic food. Water bomb pops will be sold for $1 each.


Donations for the Central food pantry and the Phoenix United Food Bank may be dropped off at any Central Christian Church including at Gilbert Soccer Complex or Campo Verde High School. Concessions and music will be held only at the Gilbert Campus, 965 E. Germann Rd.

SL Jewish Congregation plans anniversary gala


Among other important dates this year, Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation celebrates its 25th anniversary with a gala event on Sat., Dec. 10 at Oakwood Country Club in Sun Lakes.


In addition to the Congregation’s 25th anniversary, the celebration honors the Sisterhood’s 25th anniversary, the Men’s Club’s 20 years and Rabbi Irwin Wiener’s 75th birthday, all occurring this year.


A souvenir journal including written tributes, historic vignettes and photos featuring Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation members and the community over the past 25 years, will be distributed at the event. Local businesses are encouraged to advertise in the journal to show support for the local Jewish community. Tickets are $45 per person, and the public is welcome to attend. The art quilts of Linda McCurry of Gilbert will be on display through Sat., June 18 at The Grove Coffee shop, located at 2777 S. Gilbert Rd. in Chandler. Hours of this show at the shop are Friday 6:30 a.m. to noon and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The art show, entitled “Shallow/Deep” is part of ongoing artist exhibits at the coffee shop, which is part of The Grove, a missional church founded in 2000. For details, visit www.thegroveaz.org.
