Top pops from Page 50 Why Our Dad Is The Best

Who encourages us to try new things And is always at all our games?

Who takes care of us when Mom is traveling And unlike most dads, can do our hair? Who helps us through rough times And makes sure we pull through? Who is always there when we need him And is still there when we don’t? Who is happy when we’re happy And is sad when we’re sad?

These things describe our father, and how he is the best dad in the whole world. Tamillia Thomas, 11

Honorable Mentions Tom Barnes, San Tan Vista

My dad, Tom Barnes, has been a Chandler resident for many years and is a very special dad for many reasons.

My dad was always the hands-on dad with my older sister and I, attending every concert, play, awards ceremony and recital. Most importantly he made education a priority and insisted that my sister and I go to college as soon as we graduated from high school. He said “Pick a school and I’ll get you there.” By the time we were approaching college age, he found himself a single dad, but managed to put both of us through private colleges on his own salary. Deanna Hughes

Mark Grabo, Sienna Heights

I am nominating my boyfriend Mark Grabo for Dad of the Year. Mark goes above and beyond, not only for his three children, but for my two as well. He commutes 200 miles a day to be able to have his kids

at night and get them to school. He is at all of his kids’ sports even though they are in Glendale. He treats my kids like they are his own and is at every school event, baseball and softball game and practice they have. He does whatever it takes to be the best dad possible all the time.

Dawn O’Brien Eugene W. Latsch, Jr. Sun Groves

My father’s dedication and love for his family shows that he deserves this award, in my opinion. He has done more than I believe any father has ever done. He sacrifi ces a lot due to him being in the U.S. Army stationed in Maryland, while my mother and brothers are here in Arizona. He works day in and day out to provide for our family and he deserves nothing but the best. I know that he is strong-willed and he does everything he can to support us. This is why my father deserves this award. Allyson Latsch

Michael Curtis Wesley, San Sebastian Michael Curtis Wesley: He is a man of ever-fl owing wisdom, of a naturally giving heart and of limitless love. There is no other man on Earth more deserving of the title “Dad of The Year.” I say this not as his son, but as a fellow man who looks up to another man. He is my idol, my hero and my best friend. He is an impressive man who, even through hardships, shows everyone that a positive attitude and an enthusiastic smile can overcome even the most adverse situations. Mike Curtis Wesley: a man you must meet to believe. Brandon Wesley

friend! My dad always puts other people ahead of himself. He will drop anything that he may have going on to help someone out in need. His willingness to always go the extra mile for others and us makes him the perfect candidate for Dad of the Year. He has always taught my sister and I that as long as you have your family with you, you have everything you could possibly need in the world! He is our rock, our No. 1 fan and the best gift given to our family! Ericca Martinez

David Flores, Fonte Al Sole

Why should David Flores win the “Dad of the Year” award? Maybe it is the way our girls see him treat others the way he wants to be treated. Maybe it’s the way he puts us fi rst. Or the hours he spends playing soccer with our girls in the backyard. Or the way he seems to be “in the moment” despite all the millions of other things going on. Maybe it is because he knows how to be strong, yet gentle. Or maybe it is the fact that he is still a little kid in a man’s body. Kristie Flores

Tom McCloud, Ocotillo

He continually strives to learn more and be better for his family, faith and job. He’s intelligent, funny, adventurous, protective and loving. Handsome too! Tom frames all of the awards his daughter earns, puts her 100% papers on the fridge. Taught and instilled responsibility, desire of challenge and motivation within his daughter to set and reach her goals. He leads by wonderful example with integrity, honesty and pursues excellence in life and for his family. Chooses hobbies our family can do and learn together, acknowledges and puts the needs of family fi rst. He brings out the best in us. Amy McCloud
