Hartke appointed vice chair of homelessness committee

Address issues of the homeless in Maricopa County will be the charge for Chandler City Councilmember Kevin Hartke, who assumes the position of vice chairman of the Continuum of Care Regional Committee on Homelessness for the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) on July 1. MAG provides regional planning and policy decisions in areas of transportation, air quality, water quality and human services. As vice chair, Hartke will help lead the region’s planning efforts to address homelessness in Maricopa County. The Committee recently oversaw a county-wide
“Homeless Street Count” that identifi ed 1,749 homeless individuals living on the street and 4,304 people in emergency and transitional shelters, of whom 65 were from Chandler.
“It is an honor to lead, serve and work together with other communities to help those in our midst who have great needs, especially in these challenging economic times,” says Hartke.
The committee is comprised of local elected offi cials, representatives of the governor’s offi ce, service provider agencies, business representatives, personnel from the Department of Economic Security, advocates for the homeless and formerly homeless individuals.
Councilmember Hartke serves as senior pastor at Trinity Christian Fellowship in Chandler and has had extensive service on City boards and commissions including chair of the Chandler Human Relations Commission and 2010 Complete Count Census Committee.
He also volunteers with several organizations and is the director of For Our City-Chandler, vice president of the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona and is an executive board member of the Chandler Coalition on Youth Substance Abuse.
