DOMAINE DUJAC MOREY-SAINT-DENIS 2008

(MOREY- SAINT-DENI S , CÔTES DE NUITS , BOURGOGNE)

Dujac is one of Burgundy’s leading domaines and have large holdings in Morey-St-Denis including Grand Cru’s Clos St Denis and Clos de la Roche. Owner Jacques Seysses is a perfectionist; and now an organic one, making wines of great finesse, silky and wonderfully perfumed. The domaine are also keen on whole-bunch clusters going into the tank to avoid bruising the grapes, but do tend to modify the amount of stem depending on the vintage. While this wine is of village level only it displays very little of what used to be politely referred to as rusticity in Morey St Denis.

DOMAINE LUCIE ET AUGUSTE LIGNIER CLOS DE LA ROCHE 2008

(MOREY- SAINT-DENI S , CÔTES DE NUITS , BOURGOGNE)

A wonderful Grand Cru vineyard which is the last one as you travel north to Gevrey-Chambertin, and shares some characteristics of that village. Firm, scented and spicy, some of the best wines of Morey-St-Denis can come from the Clos de Roche. The name could refer to a rocky substructure that is very close to the surface here. The Lignier’s are a multigenerational family with cousins George and Hubert being the most well known. Romain took over from his father Hubert, but his tenure ended early when he prematurely passed away. The domaine is now in the hands of Kellen, Romain’s widow, on behalf of their children Lucie and Auguste, with Hubert out of retirement and lending a hand.
