Food lovers, city slickers and high rollers gathered Zuma’s terrace in DIFC to outbid each other for the chance to take home the best cooking talent in the emirate, all in the name of charity. Guests made their high stakes offers as part of the Chefs For

Japan event, with the head chefs from seven of Dubai’s finest restaurants auctioning off their services in the kitchen to the highest bidder. The charity initiative, organised by Zuma co-founders Rainer

CHARLIE NEWBERY, SOPHIA AKROYD AND ED HARRIS

Becker and Arjun Waney, was launched to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross to help the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit the country earlier this year. Hosted by Ajaz Sheikh, Zuma’s director of operations for the Middle East, the bidding from foodies was fast and furious as each chef was auctioned off to cater for a private party of 12 in the winner’s home. With high-end restaurants such as The Rivington

RISHIKA CHAINANI AND NARESH CHAINANI

Grill, La Petite Maison and Zuma, represented on the night, the selection of canapés on offer presented a taste of some of the finest menus in Dubai. Competition was so intense that one couple who didn’t

secure the services of a chef in the live auction splashed out on their own private culinary masterclass for an undisclosed, but very generous, amount. The evening’s style levels were only topped by the generosity on display – now that’s what we call chic charity!
