At this fine dining establishment in Sunriver, Chef Lars Johnson keeps his menu fresh and local, concentrating on steaks, pasta, fish and poultry prepared with French and Italian influences. An array of specials augment the menu each night, and desserts are excellent. It's a little hard to find, but it’s a cozy spot with a friendly atmosphere and upscale food. Hola MEXICAN/PERUVIAN 57235 River Rd. 541-593-8880. hola- $$-$$$ Located on the banks of the Deschutes River, Hola’s newly opened Mexi-Peruvian restaurant replaced the former Trout House, which had occupied the location for over 25 years. Hola, whose third location, like the other two in Bend, specializes in traditional Mexican and Peruvian dishes, an extensive tequila selection, and creative cocktails including margaritas, and a fantastic little concoction called Capirihanas de Maracuya. Hunan Chinese Restaurant CHINESE 51546 Hwy 97. 541-536-3998. $-$$ Despite being the only option for Chinese food south of Bend in Central Oregon, Hunan is one of the best restaurants to chow down at in La Pine. Be careful what time you decide to go in because on Sundays their dining room is jam-packed with the after-church crowd every week. Though the menu may not be very adventurous, Hunan offers Americanized Chinese classics, which instantly satisfy locals, tourists and passers- through. Los Tres Caballos MEXICAN 51500 Hwy 97. 541-536-1006. $$ Formerly El Caporal, Los Tres Caballos features the same great food under a new name. Though it may have a small indoor dining room, it has a large patio with plenty of outdoor seating and offers traditional Mexican fare in an authentic atmosphere. Don’t miss out on the chicken taquitos and their gigantic, refreshing pina coladas–by far the best in La Pine. The Dish: Open daily for lunch and dinner, children’s menu, outdoor seating.

Wickiup Station AMERICAN 52600 Hwy 97. 541-536-7577. $-$$ This sports bar in La Pine is the best option to grab a pint and watch a game on one of their large, flatscreen TVs. The restaurant offers plenty of room to spread out and serves traditional pub food with daily specials. The Dish: open daily for lunch and dinner, children’s menu, outdoor seating.

Village Bar and Grill AMERICAN 57100 Mall Dr. Bldg 6. 541-593-1100 $$ This is a favorite for locals and visitors alike featuring live music in the courtyard two to four days a week in the summer, which really draws a crowd. The menu offers traditional bar fare like sliders and nachos, but also brings a little something extra with their wraps, salads, black angus steaks, and seafood. The restaurant offers large portions at reasonable prices and has a decent beer list, which rotates and includes local brews. The Dish: Family dining in a sports-bar atmosphere with a good beer selection, open daily for lunch and dinner.

La Pine

Cinco de Mayo MEXICAN 51470 Hwy 97. 541-536-2236. $$ Cinco de Mayo has been cooking up homemade Mexican food in La Pine since

1995. The servers are always friendly and the restaurant can accommodate groups of up to 30 people, which makes it the perfect location to gather with friends for special occasions if you’re down on the south end of the county. Try the fiesta tostada, which is shaped like a sailboat, or their sizzling fajitas. Be sure to save room for a scoop of fried ice cream or sopapillas.
