Shop and Display Equipment Association arranges grants for UK exhibitors at InRetail in Dubai
Following the huge successes sdea members enjoyed at EuroShop in February, the Association is offering similar grants from UK Trade & Investment for exhibitors at InRetail in Dubai this autumn. The grants, worth £1,400 per exhibitor, will help UK exporters penetrate the important Gulf market where retail developments continue to grow. The total spend on retail projects in the UAE reached US$ 1084 million in
2010, whilst the demand for retail space in the region is set to grow at a rate of 9.5% in 2011 and 2012. The Association has also negotiated substantial discounts on stand space
for its members at InRetail which will run alongside Index, the interior design exhibition, from 22-25 October 2011. Meanwhile in the UK, sdea has recently concluded an agreement with a
finance company which will work with the Association’s members to offer competitive leasing arrangements to their clients. With so much talk in the media of banks being reluctant to lend to small companies, this is a welcome development. Members attending last month’s AGM elected president, Nick Wraith of
Unibox, and vice president, Chris Shoebottom of Albion Design and Fabrication, for a second term. They also elected four new executive council members: Mark Ellis, sales & marketing director, Metal Craft Industries; Colin Hibbs, managing director, Protean Design; Angus Morton, head of sales and marketing, B Brown Display Materials and Alan Pegram, sales director, Global Display Projects. Before the members and their guests sat down for the AGM lunch at
Bluebird Restaurant in Chelsea, they were treated to a fascinating insight into the running of a major shopping centre by Tom Nathan, general manager of Brent Cross.
