Why do we have horses?
S
ome of us keep them and never ride them even. So what makes us horsey people? Is it because they understand us and our moods?
They can represent our children, our friend and they are totally time consuming.
We love looking after them, riding them, breeding from them and learning more about them.
And the more we learn the more we know that there is so much more to learn.
When we ride a horse that ticks all the right boxes then we as riders come alive.
And all that work, effort, time and money are rewarded beyond measure.
When we think we are on a plateau that we can never leave we are inspired by an instructor who tells you the secret to the next level and away we go effortlessly upwards.
When we ride by a field that we have driven past time and time again but from the back of a horse we see over that hedge and further fields behind, it gives us another perspective.
Those are the moments when we know we have made the right choice of being labelled horsey.

We are strong people who see the good in every pony and only have time for people who sing off the same hymn sheet.
Our loved ones think we are possessed and we cannot understand those who have clean homes and that don’t smell!!
It is the greatest journey of ones life as it never fails to make one have a reason to live and stay alive.
It gives true contentment deep down and dare I say it, it gives us purpose in ones life.
Thank you to our horses.
Survey on hi-viz clothing
The British Horse Society (BHS) has launched a survey to find out why many horse riders and carriage drivers fail to wear high-visibility clothing.
Wearing hi-viz equipment when riding on the road can give vehicle drivers a valuable three seconds’ extra reaction time that could save the life of both horse and rider, says the BHS.
Those three seconds are equivalent to a car, driven at 30mph, travelling the length of a dressage arena yet still a worryingly high proportion of riders choose not to make use of this life- saving equipment, according to the BHS.
The survey aims to gather information about what hi-viz items equestrians use – and if they don’t, why not.
Sheila Hardy, BHS senior executive for safety, said: ‘Wearing hi-viz equipment will not only ensure that drivers on the road will see you up to three seconds sooner and can therefore take avoidance – it will also help you to be found if you are lying injured following a fall.’
