TOP VOLUNTEER: Dave Riggall, second from right, with Chandler Police Department staffers.

Dave Riggall, a Chandler Police Department volunteer, was honored at the Annual Association for Volunteer Administration of Central Arizona (AVACA) luncheon recently, recognized for his service as a Telephone Compliance Volunteer. In that capacity, the majority of his responsibilities involve telephone compliance volunteers, where he trains new volunteers, compiles statistics and handles a great deal of paperwork, according to CPD Media Relations Officer Det. Frank Mendoza, who says Riggall shows a “special dedication” to the police department and to the community, adding that his efforts “allow the Criminal Apprehension Unit detectives to remain on the street and make physical arrests on warranted subjects.” In addition, Riggall’s leadership led to the clearance of 15 City of Chandler warrants, which had a combined bond amount of $10,351. Riggall has been a volunteer for the police department since January 2010.

The Town of Gilbert is a finalist for the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award given by the Department of Defense. The award is the highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Only 30 finalists were chosen from more than 4,000 nominations.

WATER WORKS: John Pinkston, a wastewater facilities superintendent in Chandler’s Municipal Utilities Department, was named the Large Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor of the Year by AZ Water Association. Pinkston manages the City of Chandler’s Airport Water Reclamation Facility near McQueen and Queen Creek roads in Chandler and was honored during the Association’s annual conference. AWRF employees Steve Hodges and Charlie Estrella also won the Association’s Gimmicks & Gadgets Award for developing a piece of equipment simplifying the process of cleaning large aeration basins at the treatment plant.
