Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is awarded the bronze level of quality achievement from “Get With the Guidelines,” a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Stroke Association guidelines for patient treatment. Mercy Gilbert treated its first stroke patient in September 2010, and received certification as a “Primary Stroke Center” from the Joint Commission, designating it as a facility that “demonstrates exceptional quality in treating and improving long-term outcomes for stroke patients.”


Mercy Gilbert Medical Center hires Mikell Christian, R.N. as the hospital’s chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services. Christian has more than 17 years of executive leadership experience in healthcare, specifically in nursing and patient care roles, and will fill the vacancy left by the departure of Kim Wilson, R.N.


Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and Chandler Regional Medical Center announces that 12 physicians were credentialed in May. Six from Mercy Gilbert are: Mohammad Altriki, M.D. Internal Medicine; Eunlee Chung, D.O. Internal Medicine; Hassan Makki, D.O. Cardiology; Marco Marsella, M.D. Neurosurgery; Nathan Richardson, M.D. Orthopedic Surgery; Julia Solomon, M.D. Maternal Fetal Medicine. The six from Chandler Regional are: Altriki, Chung, Charles Jost, M.D. Cardiology; Makki; Marsella and Solomon. There are currently more than 760 credentialed physicians who practice at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, and 870 at Chandler Regional Medical Center. The Maricopa Community Colleges Governing Board will consider raising property taxes by the limit permitted in the state constitution and statute (A.R.S §15-1461.01) at a public hearing June 14. Chandler-Gilbert Community College is part of this group of colleges. About 60 percent of the district’s operational budget is generated by property taxes. The increase in primary property taxes that is under consideration would result in $101.23 taxes on a $100,000 home, as compared to $98.28 per year if the district did not maximize its levy, a difference of $2.95. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert hired a new Pathology Section Chief, Kevin McCabe, D.O. He will assume his position at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center which opens this September. McCabe received his medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA. and later went on to complete his fellowship in anatomic pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
