Nonprofits learn about fundraising at workshop

Nonprofit professionals and volunteers receive tips on strengthening their annual giving campaigns and retaining donors at a half-day workshop entitled “How to Raise Money & Retain Donors,” offered by local veteran fundraisers Diana Hoyt and Bridget Costello on Fri., June 24.

“The economic downturn has effected charitable donations,” explains Hoyt, who served as chief development officer for five nonprofit development offices in the Greater Phoenix area. “It’s critical that nonprofits increase the return on investment for their annual giving program and maximize donor retention.” Topics at the workshop include “Structuring a Successful Annual Giving Campaign,” “Maximizing Donor Retention” and “Appreciating the Art and Importance of Gratitude.”

The event will be held at the Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. An optional networking lunch begins at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $40 per person, $25 for additional attendees from the same organization and $14 for lunch. Registration is required. To learn more or register, call 602-265-6680 or 800-752-3100.

Fulton Homes offers free pool fences Fitness center debuts in Gilbert

Nominations are being accepted through July 4 for the Fulton Homes Fence Patrol, a program that works to prevent drowning by awarding free, installed pool fences to local residents.

Recent winners include the Ritchey family of Gilbert, whose husband and father, Tyler, was left an amputee after a hit-and-run accident. Tyler requires a pool for therapeutic purposes, and the new fence will protect his family’s three young daughters from drowning.

“The Ritchey’s pool will not only be used recreationally, but will also be used to help Mr. Ritchey’s physical progression,” explains Douglas Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes. “It is imperative that the Richeys be awarded a free pool fence, and Fulton Homes is proud to do so.”

Residents wishing to nominate themselves or another should visit www.kmle108. com and click on the Fence Patrol icon. For more information, call 602-452-1000 or go to www.fultonhomes.com and click on the “Fulton Foundation” link.

In addition to bringing a new gym to Gilbert, the recently opened Desert Fitness center created more than 40 full- and part-time jobs in the SanTan Sun area. “We were really excited to get some of the high caliber employees that we got,” says Desert Fitness spokesperson Jared Wilson. “This company does business the right way, and many of our employees were refreshed to see that for a change. We don’t have high pressure salesmen who walk the floor and try to badger members into buying something they don’t need.”

Desert Fitness anticipates hiring several more employees and is looking at expansion, Wilson adds.

“So far this concept has received a tremendous response, and we are excited to continue the growth into the future.”

Memberships start at $19.99 per month. Desert Fitness is located on the northwest corner of Queen Creek and Higley roads. To learn more, visit www.desertfitnessaz.com.
