Before you enter Ben’s home by the back door entrance, you begin the travel back in time as you come into his back yard. There stands an outhouse, with an old fashioned boiler, washboard and mangle (discreetly hidden behind these is Sam’s modern day washing machine). There is an outside Privie, which Sam uses for recycling his blue, green and grey waste. The 1930’s and 40’s would not have seen this type of recycling. Newspaper always had another use as you can see hanging on the wall in the Privie. There was no throw away society then!

Around the house and in the outhouses are displayed the old fashioned advertising signs. Signs like “Ration Chocolate”. What would it be like today, if sweets were rationed.
