You know Mrs Arrington ……… don’t you? Mrs Arrington has been a teacher

at

Godmanchester Primary School forever; well it feels like that. Over 750 children have been in her class over the years. If you ask around our town you will find that Mrs Arrington has taught generations of Godmanchester children; parents, aunts, uncles, even grandparents!

Mrs Arrington is to retire at the end of July. She will begin a well earned rest and will be able to think back over her very successful career.

She joined our school in 1979 and has worked with three of the four head teachers, Mr Lord, Mr Brown and Mr Ellington. She has taught in almost every year group and classroom in the school. She has been on numerous outings, excursions and school camps. She also coached successful school netball teams and umpired many inter-school matches, using only one whistle in the whole of her career, a “hand-me- down” from her mother.

Mrs Arrington has seen many changes. In the past she used a blackboard and chalk and now teaches with an interactive whiteboard and visualiser. Mark books have been replaced with computer data sheets and attendance registers have gone electronic!

Often new teachers have been placed with her for guidance and support. At the end of one placement the trainee was heard to say ‘Mrs Arrington just doesn’t know how good she really is at this teaching children business.’ That speaks volumes!

Mrs Arrington has been a steadfast supporter and instructor of maypole dancing. Over the years she has spent hundreds of hours, with hundreds of children teaching them the traditional dances such as The Spiders Web, Barbers Pole, Chrysanthemum and Plait all with infinite patience. These dances have been regularly displayed in school and community events.

What has not changed in all this time is her enthusiasm, professionalism, support of others and her dedication to school and the children.

You know Mrs Arrington ………….don’t you? The one that unties the knots…….
