West Bromwich- born, she first sang with the Second City Jazzmen before moving on to national success and an extended stint with Monty Sunshine’s band. While raising a family, she was limited to occasional guest appearances, but the M&B Jam Session in 1984 heralded a return to the big time. For many years Val has starred with the Billie Holiday tribute, Lady Sings the Blues, but she also has numerous recordings under her own name. Recently she has turned to song writing with an acclaimed recording, Keeping the Flame Alive, based on the lives and works of the Bronte Sisters.
WILL BLAKE BIG BAND The Will Blake Band is a
young and vibrant rhythm and blues/rock’n’roll/boogie woogie/soul band with the showmanship of 18-year- old pianist/singer Will Blake supported by an animated horn section and stunning backing singers. by blues, bluegrass, traditional country, jazz and rock & roll. His career took off when his first solo record helped launch him onto the New York music scene in 2002. His 2009 release, Gnawbone, with guest performances by Jolie Holland, Samantha Parton of the Be Good Tanyas, and Jan Bel, was one of five album finalists in its category at the Independent Music Awards. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Will Scott is finishing work on a new album, Keystone Crossing.
ZINGAROS NEW GYPSY TANGO [ARGENTINA] The band was originally formed in winter 2004 as a duo of guitar and violin, but it was only when they were joined by accordion that the band developed its own musical identity. Now, playing with originality and feeling, the Zingaros present a unique and exciting fusion of Slavonic gypsy music, tango flavour, Hot Club nuances and contemporary chords.
