REAL WEDDINGS | Lauren & Mike

How did you two meet?Mike and I met on a business trip to Ireland. I was hosting the trip as the business development director and Mike was coming over to Ireland to conduct training for 6 weeks. It was during Christmas time in Ireland, which is particularly festive and because we were there for 6 weeks straight, we had the opportunity to get to know each other fairly well. At the time, I was in another relationship and thought we were just friends. As that friendship continued over the next year, Mike stood by me during the difficult ending of my other relationship. One night at dinner the following Christmas, Mike said “I know things are tough right now but I know we are meant to be together and I will wait for you as long as you need to be ready.” He was right and the rest is history….

How long was your engagement? Our engagement was just over of a year. He proposed on Oct 24, 2009 and we were married Oct 30, 2010….the ring was burning a hole in his pocket and he proposed to me as soon as I got home from another business trip to Ireland. In our townhome, he got down on one knee in front of the dog dish – lol! He left the next day for a business trip to India for 3 weeks and I got to admire my new jewelry while he was gone.

What inspired your wedding theme? We knew we wanted to have a destination wedding so that all our friends and family could celebrate with us for more than just one day. My parents retired to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and as we have visited there several times we knew it was the right setting to host our wedding. Our theme was really born out of the relaxed and beautiful setting of our reception site along the banks of the inland waterway. We knew we wanted the polka dot theme to really play up the fun and informal aspects of the wedding. These were complimented by ceremony music exclusively from the Glee soundtracks and an extensive candy buffet to continue the festivities. One of the consistent parts of the theme was the custom monogram created by the MOH/Bride’s sister using the Bride and Groom’s new initials and incorporating the polka dots. The monogram was used on everything from the invitations and save the dates to the programs & center pieces.

What inspired your wedding color pallet? Our color pallet,

black and white polka dots with green accents was inspired mostly by our desire to have a whimsical and fun wedding that wasn’t going to be taken too seriously in a relaxed and beautiful setting in the south. I didn’t want to have the girls invest in dresses they didn’t like or couldn’t use so I just told them to get black cocktail dresses that they loved. The green accents mostly came from the beautiful setting in Murrells Inlet and all the green moss hanging from the trees at our ceremony site.
