Kylin & Jordan
What do-it-yourself projects did you do? We did all the planning ourselves. Phone calls, errand running, menu planning, everything. I love that we did this because it really felt like our day.
Stationary -We designed and printed our own save-the-dates, invitations, and programs.
Reception decor - I handmade paper heart garlands to string up around the reception room. I pinned photos of us growing up, and our first few dates, on a string with clothes pins. I hinged old door panels together to make a back drop for behind the headtable.
Centerpieces - I borrowed antique books in our wedding colors from an antique dealer, stacked them on top of a mirror next to a glass vase, which I tied a green ribbon on, full of baby’s breath sprigs.
Boutonnieres - A hot glue gun and a free
Friday night can produce some pretty amazing stuff! I ripped fabric leaves off of some fall decor and wrapped the stems with brown thread and a green bow.
Guestbook - I bought a cheap, plain guestbook and covered it in brown fabric, hot-glue-gunned some left over wedding decor on it, and viola! I even made a matching pen. I also drew a tree on a white illustration board and had guests leave their thumb print on the branches to look like fall leaves, symbolizing that our friends and family have left their ‘prints’ on our lives.
Bouquets - I ordered baby’s breath in bulk and wrapped bunches of it in ribbon.
Favors - I made origami boxes and put custom made fortune cookies in them, tying them with raffia.
Send-Off Ribbons - I hot-glue-gunned long ribbons in my wedding colors to hand- painted dowel rods for guests to wave as

we left the reception, as an alternative to throwing birdseed, etc.
Our vows -We wrote our own vows, and what we would say for the exchange of rings. I loved that we did this. It made us feel like we were truly speaking our heart.
What advice do you have for other brides? My best advice for brides would be to NOT stress. It’s not worth it. Keep in mind, the most important thing about your wedding day is your groom and the fact that you’re marrying him. As long as you get to do that, nothing else matters. And let yourself be inspired by things as you’re planning! Draw inspiration from music, the outdoors, movies, anything! Base your wedding around things you love. It’ll have ‘us’ written all over it.
