REAL WEDDINGS | Meghan & Rob

How did you two meet? Rob and I met in Portland, Oregon in 2006. I was finishing up my undergraduate degree at Linfield College and Rob was stationed at the Coast Guard base in Astoria. We met downtown at an Irish Pub where I gave Rob my phone number. He called. Thank goodness because he was moving to Alaska for 2 years. We met up again in New York city in the Fall of 2008 where we attended an awards ceremony honoring Rob. I was getting my Masters of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia and Rob had just been reassigned to Corpus Christi, Texas. Once I was done with school in April of 2009, I moved to Corpus Christi.

How long was your engagement? Rob proposed while we were visiting family over Christmas on January 4, 2010 We were married on August 21, 2010. thus our engagement was about 8 months.

What inspired your wedding theme? Our personalities and the beautiful Walla Walla Valley. Both of us love the outdoors and I am not a very frilly person so we wanted to find a location that had a lot of natural beauty where we could have the ceremony by a creek or in a wooded area then have the reception on location. We found it at Mill Creek Gardens. It was beautiful and turned out exactly how we wanted.

What inspired your wedding color pallet? We are both minimalistic and wanted to take advantage of all the natural color and the beautiful late summer blooms. White and wood was our color pallet with hints of turquoise. The turquoise came from my overall love of the stone and Rob bought me a beautiful pair of silver and turquoise earrings for my birthday right after we met and he moved to Alaska for 2 years.

What was special about where you got married? Mill Creek Gardens is just outside of Walla Walla, Washington. Rob grew up in Walla Walla and spent much time in the Mill Creek area, thus this was a perfect location. Neither of us visited the location since we live in Texas. My parents actually scouted out places and said this was what we were looking for. Since my family lives within an hour, we wanted to be close so people wouldn’t have to travel far. Mill Creek Gardens was the perfect location because it was exactly what we were looking for, an outdoor setting near a creek with a beautiful view. The price was reasonable and the owners took care of everything that we asked. Since we planned the wedding from 2500 miles away in Texas, this was very helpful and relieved unneeded stress.
