Something Old, Something New | WEDDING PLANNING
- Jennifer & Jeff -
In the bride’s own words: If I had to give a short description of my wedding vision it would be "casual elegance". We wanted a classic feel without it being stuffy. We were striving to have a balance between the decor and setting being elegant, but ensuring that people had fun. We decided to do a "black and white ball" theme, and asked all of our guests to wear black attire to the wedding. We encouraged guests to have fun with it—i.e. a colored bow tie, or socks, or a black dress with colored shoes, we definitely wanted them to feel like they could add some personality to their outfit.
The Invitations: Jennifer and Jeff took a DIY approach with all of the stationary items for their wedding: invitations, menu cards, programs, etc. This is such an easy thing to do and definitely will save you money. It just takes a little time and some patience to make sure you line everything up correctly and get the look you want.
The Shoes: In keeping with the black and white theme with pops of pink, Jennifer chose hot pink wedding day shoes. Wearing a bright colored pair of shoes under your wedding dress is a great way to have some fun and tie
in the colors of your wedding.
The Cake: To bring in the hints of pink, the couple decided to keep the cake simple and add some pink flowers to the top that matched the Bridesmaids’ bouquets. This illustrates that you have many options when it comes to your cake topper.
Money saving tip: To decorate the cake table, Jennifer’s tossing bouquet was placed in a vase. This is a great way to save money on flowers; simply reuse all the bouquets as centerpieces and part of the décor.
The Flowers: Jennifer wanted to keep her bouquet subtle and elegant. To accomplish this, the flowers were chosen in ivory, champagne, and pale pinks. This added a little color to her walk down the aisle without drawing too much attention away from the bride and her dress.
The Tables: For the reception, the theme of white, black and light pink was carried through. The DIY table numbers were so easy to create: create a design, print and place in picture frames. And the centerpieces could easily be replicated: all you need are some glass jars, large

candles (floating and standard), and simple vases to place the Bridesmaids’ flowers in.
The Pictures: To add a little fun and spontaneity to their wedding, Jennifer and Jeff decided to have a photo booth. They brought some props with them and let people have a ball taking pictures throughout the night. The best part is, they got to keep an album with of all the pictures at the end of the night.
The Sendoff: How your guests say goodbye to you at the end of the night will be one of the final memories of your wedding. To cap off their evening, Jennifer and Jeff chose sparklers. Some other options include birdseed, bubbles, rose pedals, confetti (bio-degradable of course!) and good old cheers.
