PROJECT: Seaweed Bath


Ingredients 10ml aloe vera gel 5ml vegetable glycerine 2 x 500mg evening primrose capsules 3 drops prune fruit extract or clear essential oil such as frankincense, bergamot or lavender


teas and even pickled in vinegar. You might already be using


seaweed in your daily skin care without realising it. Check the label of your moisturiser for any of the following ingredients that all derive from this marvellous source - algin, alginic acid, carrageenan, photosomes or sea mineral complex. The spa industry has developed a


whole range of treatments around the use of seawater and seaweed called Thalassotherapy. If you can’t get to such a place, you can always create your own spa treatment at home. Seaweed baths are said to be especially good for sufferers of psoriasis and eczema but they also help to relieve any aches and pains. I got my seaweed from Iain

To Use 1. Prepare the bath and add the seaweed to the water.


2. Using your body brush, dry brush your whole body from the toes to the neck. Always brush in the direction of your heart. You just want to give your body a gentle ‘wake-up call’ so a light pressure is all that is needed.


3. Get into the bath and soak for about 20 minutes to get the full benefit of the seaweed.


4. This is also an ideal time for applying a face mask. Aromantic (www.aromantic.co.uk) have two different seaweed masks that come in powder form and are simply mixed with water. Alternatively, if you’re brave (and nobody can see you!) you


could always try placing some of the seaweed directly on your face.


5. Once you have finished with your bath be sure to recycle the seaweed by putting it on your compost heap or in your green waste bin.


A green experience all round!


Bathing Temperature Generally speaking, a cooler water temperature will have a more invigorating and toning effect, whereas a warm to hot bath will be more relaxing and sedative. Hot seaweeds baths – above body temperature (37c) – can also help to relieve back pain, arthritic and rheumatic pains, making them an ideal night-time soak.


Please consult your doctor before having seaweed baths if you suffer from any medical conditions or have an iodine sensitivity or are pregnant.
