HAIR TREND
LB . I don’t advocate being lazy when it comes to
styling your hair but I know everyone is busy and there’s not always time for a full blow dry (unless you’re Kate Middleton!). So once in a while, there’s no reason not to tie your hair back and only wash and blow dry your fringe – this will freshen up your whole look and give you a bit longer until your hair needs a full wash!
SB . HOW DOES YOUR HAIR TEXTURE AND TYPE
AFFECT THE STYLE OF FRINGE WE CAN HAVE? LB
. Taking your hair texture and type into account when planning a fringe is vital, as not all fringes work on all hair types. If you have fi ne and thin hair, fringes can separate and look terrible and similarly, thick, frizzy hair can take a lot of work and a short fringe would be a nightmare to style every morning. Every good hair salon should offer a free consultation where your hair type is analysed and a style is recommended for you before you go for the chop.
OR WAVY HAIR? LB
SB . CAN YOU HAVE A FRINGE IF YOU HAVE CURLY . Absolutely – but with care. Keep it looking
natural – a longer sweeping fringe with a little wave will work better than an overly-straight, blunt fringe.
. WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF FRINGE THAT YOU’RE ASKED TO CUT? LB
SB
. At the moment, thanks to the Kardashians and the whole California beach vibe, my clients are opting for long face-framing, centre parting fringes which are easy to style, but beware, these do not suit everyone. The centre parting suits those with symmetrical faces and will really highlight if you’re face isn’t, which is very common. If you fi t this category, take your parting slightly off-centre to balance and counteract the asymmetry.
SB . IS IT A GOOD TO ADD COLOUR TO A FRINGE? LB . This really depends on your colour and style,
but for the most part, it’s best to blend your fringe into the rest of your style – within reason. If you have highlights, I’d suggest that they should be more subtle around the face.
SB . CAN YOU ADVISE ON USING CLIP-IN FRINGES? LB
. Clip-in fringes are a really fun way of trying out a fringe without taking the risk and having your hair cut. Balmain offer a clip-in memory fringe, which can be heat-styled like your own hair and has a soft blend edge, meaning the clip is completely invisible. When styling your clip-in fringe, always blend it with some of your own hair and try to match the colour as much as you can.
SB . WHAT CAN WE DO WITH A FRINGE THAT HAS . If your fringe is looking a little grown-out, there
GROWN OUT A LITTLE? LB
are plenty of styling options to disguise this. Why not separate into a subtle centre parting for a Kate Moss inspired rock chick style or sweep into a side fringe? Alternatively, use your straighteners and turn under at the ends for a street style inspired do.
SB
. HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE BE GETTING OUR FRINGES TRIMMED? LB
. Good salons will offer free fringe trims
in-between your regular appointment – everyone’s hair grows at different rates but you will probably need a trim every two to three weeks.
