Where do you get inspiration for your songs?
I’m inspired by my own experiences, but I've also writ- ten a lot of songs based on stories that my friends have told me, and about how I think someone would feel in a certain situation. I write a lot of comical songs too since I love to make people laugh, or at least I try!
Tell us about your experience recording and performing.
When you record and listen to yourself over and over, you really hear where you want to improve. Recording isn't easy; it's very time consuming, but it’s worth every minute. Performing is the best part for me. I have so much fun when I'm on stage! Even if there’s hardly a crowd, there is just something about playing music in front of an audience. It really gets my adrenaline going!
What is the process you go through when writing songs?
I write songs really quickly.
something that inspires me, and putting words to it at the same time.
I'm usually strumming
Speaking of inspiration, are there any musicians who inspire you?
I’m inspired by many musicians and bands... Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, Avril Lavigne, Ani Difran- co, Gillian Welch and Andrew McMahon to name a few. I really wanted to learn guitar after I heard Andrew Mc- mahon's song "Punk Rock Princess".
Any advice for aspiring musicians?
If you really love music, pursue it. Don’t do what your family and friends want you to do. Do what you do best, and if it’s music, never give up. The hardest part for me is getting my music out into the world. I'm constantly promoting myself on Facebook, but I think the best way to become known is by word of mouth. If a friend tells someone else about me, I usually end up getting some listens and a new fan, which is wonderful. I know Pulse Magazine will be a great help too!
Do you have any upcoming performances?
I've been performing at a lot of open mic nights, and playing between sets for local bands such as The Who- letones.
which is amazing since they are such a talented and well-known band! I recently performed at FGCU’s Earth Day event on April 14, 2011.
Where can readers listen to your music?
ow did you get your start as a musician? What instruments do you play?
I started playing guitar when I was 12 years old. I used to steal my sister’s electric Fender guitar, and was soon playing it more than she did… boy, did she used to get mad at me! Eventually I got my own guitar and started playing and writing songs. Sometimes I also play the harmonica, piano and mandolin, but the guitar is my primary instrument.
